Bike Nights and a moonlight ride

Tonight was somewhat of an impromtu get together with a few members of the Hill Country Motorcycle Riders(HCMR) Club. Led by Katie Lones, we met at Rudy's in Selma, TX.
Our first stop was Texas Pride BBQ for their weekly bike night.
Had some great ribs for dinner then off we went to our next stop, Conroy's Irish Pub in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio.
Katie led us on some great backroads both to Texas Pride and Conroy's.

Met a bunch of great people(with similar interests, of course) and even one of our Comal River Riders Club members joined us as well.

Here are some pics and video from the rides...

A moonlight ride

Due to the ongoing Texas summer heat, the road spyder has been taking a break, however tonight, the temperature cooled off to a comfortable level and I was able to get out on a short "Moonlight Ride" near my new home town of Schertz, TX.

West on FM3009 to FM2252, A few pics and video of the full moon, and back home via FM482.

Once the temperatures return to a more comfortable level, The Road Spyder will return more frequently... Stay Tuned...

Hello Oklahoma, goodbye hackberry tree

With a bit of a break from work I decided to take a road trip north to Plano, TX to spend the July 4th weekend with my brother.

On Saturday morning, July 2nd I took off on a 300+ mile ride to Plano. Yes, it was hotter than heck, but I made it.

While there he mentioned that Lake Texoma, OK was less than 2 hours away.
That was all he had to say for me to get on the bike and take my first "out of state" adventure.
Headed North on TX-289(Preston Road) ,west for a bit on US-82 to US-377, then US-377 over lake texoma and you are in Oklahoma!

We woke up that morning to find one of the trees in my brothers backyard had crashed into his pool. Out came the chainsaws and about 2 hours later, the yard and pool were all cleaned up. Fortunately there was no damage to the house or other structures.

A short ride in the sizzling summer heat

Even though today's temperature climbed to the high 80's(felt like mid-90's with the humidity) I felt the need to get out and ride for a bit.

I started out from my new home, in Schertz, TX and took a short ride west on FM 3009, to FM1863, a nice scenic ride on Krueger Canyon Road to FM 482 and back to Schertz.

While traveling south on the IH 35 access road, I could not believe the amount of traffic heading south on IH-35. It was worse than my normal commute, and no accidents to be seen.

Quest for the best BBQ - Texas Pride BBQ

The Comal River Riders Club is on a quest to find the best BBQ in South Texas.
Today I led a group of 11 other bikes to Texas Pride BBQ in Adkins, TX. Texas Pride has been featured on the Food Network show "Diners, Drive-ins & Dives".

Our route included some great view of the South Texas country, which included the normal sightings of roadkill and even a live turtle crossing the road, yes, a live turtle. It was already about 3/4 of the way across when we approached but it was still a cool sight to see.

This was the 5th stop in this quest and based on the initial feedback, it seemed to be a hit. There will still be some stiff competition with other spots, but Texas Pride will still be one of my favorites no matter what.

Out of Hibernation

I will admit, the road spyder has been in hibernation for a while, but today it was time to awaken to a very warm South Texas afternoon.

While at lunch today, I got the opportunity to meet a local celebrity. Kens5 TV Meteorologist Bill Taylor. He was at the Jimmy John's location I was eating lunch at today. What a cool guy!

So, after work today, I took to the road... 94 miles total...Made a stop in Boerne at River Road Park.

Bandera Gunfight Reenactment & Market Days

Total Miles: 153

Today, 15 members of the Comal River Riders, led by Scott May, took a ride from New Braunfels, TX to Bandera, TX, "The Cowboy Capital of the World". While there, we got to experience a gunfight reenactment by The Bandera Cattle Company Gunfighters.

Lunch at The OST Cafe (short for Old Spanish Trail), then we all went our separate ways.

The market days in Bandera failed in comparison to Boerne or any other that I have been to.

The ride, gunfight and food were fantastic!.

We even came face-to-face with some Longhorns, while in Bandera. They are actually quite gentle. Their owners were offering rides for $10.00. I declined this time, although I was a bit tempted, lol.

Rest Stop in Boerne(remember... "Bernie")

Luckenbach & Wildseed Farms

Today I was invited to join two other members of the Comal River Riders Club for an impromptu ride to Luckenbach and Wildseed Farms near Fredericksburg.

Traffic getting out of San Antonio was the usually nightmare, but once out of town, it was a smooth ride to Canyon Lake. I left my place at 8:30am, thinking that traffic would be somewhat light going the opposite direction of the morning commute, but boy was I wrong. My ride to Canyon Lake should have taken about 45 minutes, however it ended up taking almost 2 hours, yes, that's right 2 hours! With no accidents, just very slow drivers.

When the posted speed limit is 70mph, you should not be in the left lane, going 45 to 50.

We met at Granny D's in Canyon Lake, TX, then, led by Jerry Moncrief, we headed out towards our first stop in Luckenbach. Next stop was Wildseed Farms (for some Mother's Day shopping), then lunch in Johnson City at The Hill Country Cupboard.

We then went our separate ways from there. I decided to make a stop at Kent Powersports in Selma, then back home.

Thanks Jerry for leading another great ride!

The Ride to nowhere

Do you ever feel like going somewhere but have no idea where you want to go?

Well that was how I felt today. I started out on one of my regular routes, heading west on FM 1957(Potranco Road), and just let my mind go.

I ended up in Bandera for a snack at DQ, then continued south and east into Boerne(remember "Bernie" for you non-texans).

It was just me, the Spyder and the open road.

After leaving the museum, I grabbed a bite to eat at The Oak Creek Cafe, and continued my ride through Spring Branch, Boerne and back to San Antonio.

Salt Lick BBQ

Today I would have been leading a ride to the CAF Air show at the airport in Burnet, TX.  This airshow was postponed until mid-September, so instead, I lead a group of 20 other bikes from The Comal River Riders Club, on a great ride to The Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, TX.

The weather warmed up quick and the food was decent.
Got a great photo taken of our group, will post it soon.

Always fun to ride with such a great group of people. Thanks to everyone that came and to the new members that recently joined.
